Vinyl Pricing Guide

Vinyl Flooring Prices: Always Easy on the Budget

Vinyl flooring prices are generally cheaper compared to other types of flooring materials. Many homeowners and even businesses consider vinyl floor tiles or sheets as a good buy. The material is so functional that it can have a finish that looks like marble, wood and even stone.

It is available in hundreds of different colors that can match any home or building interior design. Vinyl can also come in different shapes, which allow it to be laid in different floor patterns. Because of all these advantages, many homeowners are surprised that the price of vinyl flooring material remains to be very affordable.

Basically, there are two types of vinyl flooring. This material is available either as tiles or sheets. Vinyl flooring tiles are typically sold in 12 by 12 inches or 18 by 18 inches. The cheapest tiles can be bought for around $1 per square foot, but the ones with higher quality and design specifications can go for $2 to $5 per square foot. Meanwhile, vinyl flooring sheets are commonly available in 6- or 12-foot wide panels.

When estimating the price of vinyl flooring materials, you should know that petroleum is a major component in the manufacture of vinyl. So, the price of this type of flooring material can be hugely influenced by oil prices. Apart from that, the patterns or the colors of the tiles or sheets can also drive the price of the vinyl tiles or sheets.

Also, you can check the bottom layer of the vinyl flooring. In some tiles, the underside is made up of felt, while in others it is made up of vinyl. Vinyl floors whose undersurface are also vinyl are more durable and cannot be nicked or scratched easily, thus they are more expensive than the ones with felt undersides.

Always remember that total installation costs will be higher if the area that will be covered by vinyl material is irregular in shape. Not only will vinyl flooring be difficult to set up in an odd-shaped room or surface, but it will also require more tiles or sheets to cover the area. Make it a point to also check the size of the room or area that you wish to be covered.

For small areas, you can buy leftover vinyl tiles or sheets sold at huge discounts by home improvement stores. In the end, vinyl flooring prices depend mainly on the quality and design of the material, the shape of the area that will be covered and installation fees, if any.
